Human Sacrifice alter

human sacrfic alter.jpg
This is a human sacrifice alter use by the ancient Mayan to sacrifice the winner of an ancient ball game. Surprisingly it was actually an honor to be sacrificed, hence the reason the winner was sacrificed. Another interesting thing about the ancient Mayan is they had a cross as a major religious symbol; they associated it with the Maize plan. The Mayan concept of the cross in fact bears striking similarities to the Christian cross. "The cross was a religious symbol in Middle American long before the arrival of Christianity. The Maya connected it with the maize plant, which was ,a and is , their staple crop, the foundation of their agriculture and the centre and mainstay of the whole traditional Maya way of life. It is also, in myth the substance of which man is made. In a sanctuary dedicated to maize at Palenque, the plant is shown in human form, standing with its arms extended in the shape of a cross and worshipped by two priests. The Maya see the stages in the growth of maize as analogous to human development and teh ripe corn is portrayed as a beautiful young man. The plant is a friend and ally, and the Tzeltal Maya still leave ears of maize to guard unattended children." Legands of The World Richard Cavendish

If that is not in fact evidence for the truth of Jesus Christ death and resurrection than get this. Joseph Campbell who was one of the worlds leading experts on myth up until his dead in 1987 said this. "Getting out the childhood motif requires a death and a Resurrection; a fundamental experience that everyone has to undergo. We are in childhood for a least the first 14 years of our life then to get out of that posture of dependency, physiological dependency into one of psychological self responsibility requires a death and resurrection, and that is the basic motif of the hero journey. Leaving one condition, finding a source of life to bring you forth in a richer or more mature or other condition." Later he says in that same interview he say "Christ now there is a perfectly good hero deed represented there..."

My verse for today

Ecclesiastes 11:5

As you do not know the path of the wind,

or how the body is formed [a] in a mother's womb,

so you cannot understand the work of God,

the Maker of all things.
