Fort Wetherill

Fort Wetherill is a historic fort located on Conanicut Island, which contains the entire the city of Jamestown and sits in the middle of Narraganset Bay. The location had fortifications going back as far as the colonial period. The site was called the battery at Dumpling Rock, and served together with the then newly constructed Fort Adams in Newport to protect the East Passage of Narragansett Bay.

The Warwick Neck Lighthouse

The Warwick Neck Lighthouse is located at the bottom of Warwick Neck. The lighthouse has played a pivotal role in directing ships through the upper parts of Narragansett Bay to and from Providence. The current lighthouse is run by the Coast Guard under the Department of Homeland Security.

This is a photograph of a Coast Guard Cutter heading in along the East passage of Narragansett Bay. Then the ship just happen to cruise right under the large sun disc, which I believe really enhances the photograph. This along with the way the light looks as though has bent around the rocks(even though the light did not actually bend) really makes this photograph one of my favorites.

St. Patrick

For this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration there were (or are soon to be) many large parades in New York, Boston, San Francisco, and in many other places around the country. Today the parades, which began in the United States, have even spread back to Ireland with parades in Dublin and other larger celebrations in Ireland. Before, the celebrations in Ireland used to be a relatively small. One particular parade in Newport Rhode Island has been running 52 years and while it is certainly not as large as New York and Boston it is a large parade in its own right with:

“10 Pipe Bands, 12 Marching Bands, 4 Fife & Drum Corps, 3 Clown Units, 7 reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits.”

At Quidnessett Baptist Church last night a movie was shown about the History of the Welsh Revival called “A Diary of Revival”. The movie was very powerful and moving, and I would recommend it to anyone. The movie chronicles the life and experience of Evan Roberts, but more importantly it shows how Evan responded […]Evan Roberts

Daylight saving time has once again been implemented in the most of the US with the exception of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, half of Indiana, and most of Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona). Also several other countries have or will be implementing daylight saving time soon; of course there are many countries south of the equator that have their daylight saving time in reverse of ours, and countries on or near the equator have little use for it since their days remain a fairly constant length all year long.

66 years ago today Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was attacked by the Japanese. Above is a poster provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans Day began as a commemoration of Armistice Day November, 11 1918. The armistice which occurred on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, ended what was then believed at the time to be the “the war to end all [...]

The Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular at McCoy stadium from October 5th through the 30th featured over 150,000 pounds of pumpkins carved (just imagine how many pumpkins pies could of been made from that 75 tons of pumpkins) by a team of 30 professional pumpkins carvers[1]. The pumpkins were set up all around the stadium walkways [...]
