On March 28, 2007 the Postal Service joined forces with the Star Wars, and revealed the reasoning behind their new Jedi mailboxes. The mailboxes were made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars; the timing was coincidentally only 2 weeks before the release of the forever stamp, which was released on April 12th 2007, and suspect there may have been some sort of a connection, in terms of marketing. Since the forever stamp is a rather poor investment right now; because it has just come out, and postal rates are legally prevented from increasing faster than inflation. However if you were to stock up right before a price jump the stamp could then become a viable investment. Unfortunately, there is also a limit on quantity that can be purchased at once, likely to specifically prevent any investment potential. So you probably could not purchase enough of them for it to be a truly profitable investment. Essentially, this means the forever stamp is good for putting a few extra cents in your pocket, but not serious investment. So, for now stamp collecting will remain the best investment vehicle offered by the postal service. As for the Jedi Mailboxes there are reportedly 400 of these mailboxes, throughout the country; and there is also a sheet of commemorative Star Wars stamps, which I believe are still available.
