Kiteboarding (aka Kitesurfing-which usually refers to it in a surf zone) is an extreme sport that was has been popularized rather recently. Although, the concept can be traced back to as far as the 1970s and 1980s kiteboarding did not become big until the mid to late 90s and even now it is still a relatively new novelty or “hybrid” type of sport. In fact much of the current equipment used was not specific designed until 2001. The sport combines wakeboarding with kiting. Wakeboarding being a little older, but still very recent and kiting being a concept that has been combined with many things from skiing, skating, dune bugging, snowboard, etc.
