The purple ribbon represent the glorious return of Jesus Christ. The purple ribbons represent Jesus' return in the sky and not on land. This is because purple is the color of royalty and as Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world; rather it is of the world to come.
Yesterday was Maundy Thursday, and I am a little perplexed at why “MADD†decided to have a large mocktail event on such a special day. However, I can see that when you consider that they are also trying to get out a positive message, that you can have nice drinks without alcohol then perhaps some good many come from their message. However the message of Jesus, a message of eternal hope is infinitely more powerful, and so much more needed in order to really bring about change.
Furthermore, I am sure there were likely many logistical reasons for the even being scheduled on Maundy Thursday, such as the fact that many schools do still take good Friday off. It is so true, as I heard a preacher say, the world will give you no help this time, and you will have to work much harder in commemorating Easter. Because this time around there are no carols, no merry wishing, less festivity, little gifting, and often no time off of work. It seems that the good: Christmas, may actually be the enemy of the best: Easter, the day when the work was finished, and a far greater holiday in Christianity than Christmas.
Maundy Thursday, which is traditionally considered to be the night of the Last Supper, Jesus and disciples also had an event that made use of positive alternatives, they had the unleavened bread for Passover which contained no yeast. Yeast is a symbol of imperfect of sin in many analogies used by Jesus (although not literally). Accordingly, there was no beer at the mocktail event. While Jesus may have had actual wine the wine of the time was not heavily fermented, it would likely had been a much weaker wine with no sugar or yeast added as is added to many wines today for to enhance the fermentation process. Now I am not necessarily saying there is something wrong with drinking a drink that was fermented by yeast. As yeast was only symbolic of sin, was only avoided during Passover, and so was still used in cooking during that era. Nonetheless drinking of very strong drink should be highly cautioned against.
