North Kingstown vs. Bishop Hendricken

Posted on June 7, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

The state championship game for Lacrosse took place at Rhode Island College last night between North Kingstown High School and Bishop Hendricken High School.  Although I was unable to make it to the beginning of the game because I was working when I arrived there was no shortage of action.

game

This game was an exciting game from start to finish, with many unexpected twists and turns.  When I walked in it was towards the end of the third quarter and the score was 7 to 6 with Bishop Hendricken having a 1 point lead.  I walked in and of course was charged full price even though the game was half over, but I distinctly remeber walking through the Bishop Hendricken section and having some kids ask me if I was there for Bishop Hendricken, I of course without hesitation said “no; NK” to which they replied “that’s OK” and I though to myself they will be thinking different at the end of this.  So anyhow I walked down to the end of the bleachers and find my family and friends and sat down up and then the thrills began. NK went on to score 3 more points before the end of the third quarter thereby gaining a 2 point lead over Bishop Hendricken at the end of the third quarter.  When the third quarter began North Kingstown continued to add to their score, however it seemed after every score North Kingstown had worked so hard to earn Bishop Hendricken would answer back with a quick fast break.  In spite of Bishop Hendricken being able to answer back with some quick goals they were unable to maintain possession and control of the ball even though they seemed to act swiftly when given a chance they were not allowed many chances by North Kingstown.  However through the chances they were allowed Bishop Hendricken had manged to narrow North Kingstown’s lead to just one point.  With 2:20 to play in the game and Hendricken trialing by 1 I begin to think OK Nk we really needs a goal right now to sure up the victory.  North Kingstown of course does score another goal and goes on to beat Hendricken 12-10.  Of course North Kingstown fans having been wild all night could not contain themselves and start jumping over the fence and charging on the the field to congratulate the players.  It was just an amazing game.

(mike is the one with the big long blue stick, and he knocks the hawk down at the end, although it is possible he may have jumped, it was still great defense.)
