Today’s picture of the day is a photograph of the bridge over Ryan Park. I know you want to see the fall colors and all, but today you get the black and white, so you can first appreciate the picture without the colors. There are two reasons why I am doing this first I really liked how the gradient made the photo look in black and white, and two while going over photos with a friend of mine today he seemed to focus a lot on the colors as opposed to many of the many other aspects of the photographs. Now I am not saying that focusing on colors is bad or anything like that; in fact colors are very important in many situations. Take wiring for example; if you hook up the wrong color wires you could easily electrocute someone.
However, in the absence of color there are also gradations which can be judged, and these gradations can also communicate a quite a bit, which is why you can often guess about what colors things are suppose to be when you watch a black and white TV show. This is why gradations are so important, and why it is true that everything is not black and white in a black and white image. There must be nuances created by varying the shades of black and white, creating seemingly endless combination of black and white known as gray There are indeed many shades of gray. I believe in this particular photograph you really notice the gradations in the bridge, and the sky you will see does not have the variations; because it was blown out (meaning the sky was over exposed). I will try and fix this before I show you the color version tomorrow, but no promises.
