The above picture was taken from a beach in East Greenwich, which looks out down Narragansett Bay, just prior to sunset. The sky was darkened by selecting the sky separate from the sand with the magic wand tool in Photoshop, and then applying a separate exposure curve to the sky. Lastly, a small area along the tree line was cloned to blend the darker sky with the brighter foreground elements. I believe that the darken sky really highlights the rock which is the main focal point of the image, which then draws you into the nice textures of the sand, and of course up into the sky.
