Smart Car in Warwick RI
Although, Hummers and other large gas hungry veichles are still desired by many; such as the lawyers, whom I still see proudly display their decaled or painted Hummers in the phone book (while I can see the legitimate use of SUVs by outdoor enthusiasts; lawyers and others using them as driving billboards or status symbols seems a litlte wasteful to me); Smart cars seem have won a small share of the market here in RI. Ironically, parked just one car over from this smart car was a Lincoln Zephyer, which is a somewhat luxurious car. The thing that gets me about these smart car is not their weird looks, although I do find it to be somewhat of a turn off, unless you call it a golf cart. Rather it is their name, because implicit of the name is that these cars are always a smart choice. I believe these cars while smart in some instances may actually be rather dumb in other instances.
For example if you do not venture on to any dirt roads ever, or ever have to drive beside tractor trailer trucks, ever need extra trunk space for some gear or luggage, or want to take a few extra passengers in a car pool, then I would not want to be in a smart car. Futhermore, in the case of most automobile accidents I would surely not want to be in a smart car.
Sure if all you make are quick trips around town or live in a city then a smart car makes a lot of sense. However, for the majority of us, espically if we ever plan on taking longer trips or transporting a few extra people or items, a smart car would have to be a second car, then that leaves us poorer folks out, because we can barely afford the first car.
