Quidnessett Baptist Church had its much anticipated annual picnic this past Saturday September 15. The picnic offered fun and games for the whole family, all within a Christ centered environment. At the picnic there was food, obviously, along with singing, volleyball, football, a three legged race, a tie tying contest, and many other great activities. The Johnston family is kind enough to host the annual picnic on their large estate, with many other families providing resources, food and fun.

Quidnessett Baptist Church has quite a long history in North Kingstown stretching close to two centuries; it was founded in 1828 over 177 years ago. Although, the church building was burned to the ground in 1906, the church was quickly rebuilt and is going strong to this day, accomplishing its mission by making disciples of Jesus Christ. Today the original pulpit, which was saved from the 1906 fire, can be seen in its heritage center, along with many other historic items.

The church is located in the North end of North Kingstown on both sides of post road, just past School Street. The current church buildings contain perhaps one of the most unique features of any church in town, a tunnel which runs the full length under a four lane road. The current pastor is Jim Sole; a former naval chief, and expert on Puritan history and theology. Pastor Sole draws on his understanding of Puritan thought and his naval experiences in order to present the gospel of Jesus Christ in an effective contemporary way. Quidnessett Baptist Church offers a family atmosphere; with many of the families having quite a long history with the church, but nonetheless always willing to welcome newcomers.
