First phase of tonight’s Lunar Eclipse
A Total eclipse of the moon is currently in its end phase. The eclipse will be over within the hour and one will not come again until December 20, 2010, although there will be a solar eclipse on August 1st of this year. The lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon, and earth all all in alignment. The moon often becomes a reddish color, because the earth atmosphere filters out blue light. The diffusion of the light that hits it can also have an effect on color depending on the amount of dust in the atmosphere and cloud cover.
