Two Weird looking alien bugs

Two strange looking alien bugs doing who knows what

I took this picture a few days ago when I went to see if the lotuses near my home were in bloom yet.  In the picture you can see two extremely strange looking bugs, which appear to be connected.  I am not quite sure why they are connected, however my best guess is that they are probably mating.  One real amazing thing about these bugs is they look so similar to many aliens from the movies.  Hence by looking at these bugs we can see where so many science fiction movies about aliens and such get there inspiration from.  Also colors and patterns on these bugs are quite exquisite, they have very vivid oranges, blues, and blacks.

I am quite aware that they are some sort of dragonflies. However, I am not quite sure what kind, also it was quite intriguing and seemed a bit strange seeing them connected. I honestly do not remember ever witnessing dragonflies mating before. How often to you see dragonflies mating?

Also, the other point to describing them as aliens was as a lead in to relate it to our modern conceptions of aliens and where it comes from. When you look at these creatures it become obvious they have been used as inspiration for aliens in movies and many other things. Furthermore, entitling it alien bugs grabs your attention better; it is much more interesting, than entitling it, something along the lines of two boring and ordinary dragonflies just looking normal.

Finally, I guess I just took for granted that everyone would just assume that I am not completely lacking in common sense. Don’t take that wrong, I am not at all perturbed by your question, and do welcome the chance to explain my reasoning behind this post. I am just uncertain why many people often miss the deeper meaning in things I write and even sometimes what I say. Maybe I do come across a bit stoic at times so my humor is conveyed wrong. Also by all means, feel free to add any other thoughts you may have.
